I am incredibly serious about my work.
Joe LeConte, LPC, LCDC
I’m Joe. I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed chemical dependency counselor in the state of Texas. I currently work in the Substance Use and Recovery Services office of Texas Christian University, and have since 2022.
I believe that tabletop role playing games are a great way to help people develop skills and overcome some of the symptoms of anxiety, depression and loneliness.
I started Tabletop Theory in 2020 during the Corona virus lock down because I saw a need. I read too many accounts of people wanting to learn how to tell their own stories in role playing games, but stopping because they felt unprepared. I felt like I could help people accomplish their goals by sharing some of my expertise. I believe counseling and educational theory can help people become great game masters while simultaneously aiding their mental health.
I started playing advanced Dungeons & Dragons way back in 1992 at summer camp. I remember because the counselor who ran the club told me that I was too young to join, but he let me in anyway (thanks Andy!). That summer unlocked a love for telling stories that would follow me the rest of my life. I’ve run adventures for my friends, family, students and strangers.
I originally grew up near Boston, Massachusetts, and went to college in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the College of Santa Fe. After college I worked in the film and entertainment industry as a special effects technician. In 2013 I moved to Texas and began working at Texas Christian University as their Audio/Visual Coordinator. While working full time I put myself through grad school and eventually graduated with my Master’s in Education in 2019. I studied solution focused brief therapy, reality therapy, person centered therapy and eventually became an LCDC in 2022 and an LPC in 2026.
